BREE JAMES

Delivering for Far North Queensland

Hello, I’m Bree James, and I am proud to be your Member of Parliament for the Electorate of Barron River as well as the Assistant Minister for Tourism, Early Learning, Creative Industries and Far North Queensland.

My electorate runs from Machans Beach to Ellis Beach, to Kuranda to Koah, and down the hill to Redlynch Valley all the way to Stratford and everywhere in between.

I believe politics isn’t just for politicians. It’s for every single person who cares about their family, their friends, their community, and the kind of future we’re building together for our region, our state and our country.

When you cast your vote, you’re not just choosing a name, you’re choosing someone to be your leader in parliament who will fight for what matters for our region.

It was great to meet with Assistant Commissioner Graeme Paine as he begins his new role leading policing efforts across the Far North.

Our region faces unique challenges, and strong leadership will be vital as we continue working to improve community safety and support our hardworking police officers on the ground.

I look forward to working closely with Assistant Commissioner Paine as we continue the important work of making our communities safer and stronger.

Welcome to the Far North, Graeme.
Crime Numbers in Cairns: Please watch until the end and share your thoughts.

The latest crime statistics show some encouraging signs, with Queensland recording a 9.6% reduction in the number of crime victims across the state.

That's welcome news, and I want to acknowledge the work of the Queensland Police Service, the Premier and everyone involved in delivering these results.

But here in Far North Queensland, we know the job isn't finished.

FNQ has seen a reduction of 3.8% over the past 12 months. That's progress, but it's not enough for the families and businesses in Cairns who continue to feel the impact of crime.

This is exactly why the Premier visited Cairns to share these figures. Because our region's numbers must go down. We are still hurting. We are still suffering. Our Premier knows this.

We'll continue backing our police, supporting targeted operations that get repeat offenders off our streets, and advocating for the resources our region needs to improve community safety.

We'll keep working until Far North Queensland sees the same level of improvement as the rest of the state and beyond. I know how hard it is right now. I hear you and I can promise you we will do everything we can to bring victim numbers down.
With the early works contractor now appointed, crews will soon begin relocating sewer, water and Ergon infrastructure to prepare for major construction.

This is an important first step towards delivering a four-lane Cairns Western Arterial Road, along with improved bus stop infrastructure and better connections for our growing community.

After years of waiting, this project is on track and moving ahead.

The Cairns Western Arterial Road upgrade is coming. All three stages will be completed by 2032, if not before.
