BREE JAMES

Delivering for Far North Queensland

Hello, I’m Bree James, and I am proud to be your Member of Parliament for the Electorate of Barron River as well as the Assistant Minister for Tourism, Early Learning, Creative Industries and Far North Queensland.

My electorate runs from Machans Beach to Ellis Beach, to Kuranda to Koah, and down the hill to Redlynch Valley all the way to Stratford and everywhere in between.

I believe politics isn’t just for politicians. It’s for every single person who cares about their family, their friends, their community, and the kind of future we’re building together for our region, our state and our country.

When you cast your vote, you’re not just choosing a name, you’re choosing someone to be your leader in parliament who will fight for what matters for our region.

Great news for Far North Queensland healthcare

We're seeing real progress at Cairns Hospital and across our region:

- The elective surgery waitlist has dropped from more than 4,000 people to 2,881 in just 12 months, with 900 additional surgeries delivered.
- Ambulance ramping has fallen to 30.4%, now below the Queensland average.
- Cairns Hospital is now the best-performing hospital in the state for ambulance ramping among comparable hospitals.

It was fantastic to share these results with local media and Leena Singh, CEO of Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Services.

These achievements are a credit to the incredible doctors, nurses, ambos and hospital staff who work tirelessly for our community every day. We're continuing to invest in local health services so we can keep driving these numbers down and deliver better outcomes for patients.

Well done to everyone involved. This is fantastic news for our region.

A trip up the hill wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Laurie and Michelle Woods at the Speewah Country Tavern.

For years, Laurie and Michelle have been at the heart of the Speewah community, generously supporting local causes and bringing people together through community events, including the annual ANZAC Dinner where they raise funds for veterans.

The recent fatal traffic accident at Speewah deeply affected the entire town, with residents rallying around those impacted during an incredibly difficult time. They rolled up their sleeves and cooked an astonishing 44 pizzas in just two hours to help feed those affected and support the community response.

It’s a great example of the quiet acts of kindness that often go unnoticed and the community spirit that Laurie and Michelle consistently demonstrate.

And finally, a very happy 60th birthday to Michelle for last week! 🎉🎂
Wishing you a wonderful celebration and many more years of bringing people together at the Speewah Country Tavern.
