Thank you to Redlynch State College for hosting an important community conversation on tackling bullying, and to the Honourable John-Paul Langbroek MP, Minister for Education and the Arts, for taking the time to visit Cairns and hear directly from local leaders and stakeholders.

As a parent, I know every family wants their child to thrive at school, build confidence, make friends and feel respected for who they are. Bullying can have a significant impact on a young person`s wellbeing, which is why it is so important that schools, families, community organisations and government work together to find meaningful solutions.

I appreciated the opportunity to hear the perspectives of educators, community leaders, students and local organisations who are working every day to support young people across our region.

One of the highlights of my week was attending the Investiture Ceremony in Cairns, where Queensland Governor Dr Jeannette Young presented Australian Honours and Awards to an extraordinary group of Far North Queenslanders.

There were so many inspiring stories shared throughout the afternoon. James Stanton AM was recognised for a lifetime of protecting our iconic Wet Tropics, helping to preserve one of Far North Queensland`s greatest natural treasures for generations to come.

Another special moment was seeing the family of the late Dennis Howe OAM accept his medal on his behalf, recognising his enduring contribution to the agricultural industry and the Tablelands community.

From serving in our Defence Force and emergency services, to supporting local communities, protecting our environment and strengthening regional industries, each recipient has helped make Far North Queensland the incredible place we are proud to call home.

Congratulations to all of today`s recipients and your families. Thank you for everything you have done for our community and thank you for letting me be part of this very special ceremony.

Today is all about having a little fun while supporting a great cause so it`s slippers in the office for us. Wishing everyone taking part a fantastic Pyjama Day. Thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people in our community.
