BREE JAMES

Delivering for Far North Queensland

Hello, I’m Bree James, and I am proud to be your Member of Parliament for the Electorate of Barron River as well as the Assistant Minister for Tourism, Early Learning, Creative Industries and Far North Queensland.

My electorate runs from Machans Beach to Ellis Beach, to Kuranda to Koah, and down the hill to Redlynch Valley all the way to Stratford and everywhere in between.

I believe politics isn’t just for politicians. It’s for every single person who cares about their family, their friends, their community, and the kind of future we’re building together for our region, our state and our country.

When you cast your vote, you’re not just choosing a name, you’re choosing someone to be your leader in parliament who will fight for what matters for our region.

They weakened crime laws when they were in Government - and now we know they’d all do it again.

Last week in Parliament Steven Miles and every Labor MP voted against a motion on mandatory minimum sentences for serious offenders who commit a crime while out on bail.

That includes Michael Healy, Labor’s MP for Cairns.

Labor’s weak laws and fewer police resulted in victim numbers surging by 193% during their decade of decline.

We’ve introduced the strongest bail laws in the country to Parliament, with 12 months imprisonment for any offender who commits a serious offence while out on bail.

While Labor tries to weaken our laws we’re listening to Queenslanders and delivering the strong laws they need.

And because of our laws like Adult Crime, Adult Time - victim numbers are falling, but we know there’s a long way to go.
On site at the new Thyme Lifestyle Resort Palm Cove, an over-50s lifestyle resort that is starting to take shape. This community will have everything you'd want, including a magnesium pool, bocce ball courts, craft rooms and community living, offering an ideal option for downsizing.

Developments like this also play an important role in addressing our housing crisis by providing more suitable housing choices for older Australians, freeing up larger family homes and helping create greater movement across the housing market.

Well done to all involved!
ICYMI: Cairns Western Arterial Road early works has begun! The relocation works are expected to be complete in late 2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The Crisafulli Government has introduced the Breach Bail, Go to Jail and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026, delivering the next stage of our Adult Crime, Adult Time reforms and strengthening Queensland's bail laws.

The proposed reforms include:

✅ Mandatory minimum prison sentences for serious repeat offenders who commit further serious offences while on bail.
✅ A new "high degree of confidence" test, making it harder for serious offenders to be granted bail.
✅ Stronger protections for the community by placing community safety and victims' rights first.

Here in Far North Queensland, people have told me they want stronger laws and real consequences for repeat offenders. Enough is enough. I've seen the stories on Facebook and the calls for action.

These reforms are designed to deliver exactly that.

Now I need you to stand up. Submit your feedback. If you support these reforms, it's important that the Committee hears from you. https://qldparlcomm.snapforms.com.au/form/breach-bail-go-to-jail-and-other-legislation-amendment-bill-2026

Together, we can continue working to restore safety in our communities and ensure Queensland's justice system puts victims and community safety first.
