BREE JAMES

Delivering for Far North Queensland

Hello, I’m Bree James, and I am proud to be your Member of Parliament for the Electorate of Barron River as well as the Assistant Minister for Tourism, Early Learning, Creative Industries and Far North Queensland.

My electorate runs from Machans Beach to Ellis Beach, to Kuranda to Koah, and down the hill to Redlynch Valley all the way to Stratford and everywhere in between.

I believe politics isn’t just for politicians. It’s for every single person who cares about their family, their friends, their community, and the kind of future we’re building together for our region, our state and our country.

When you cast your vote, you’re not just choosing a name, you’re choosing someone to be your leader in parliament who will fight for what matters for our region.

Back in Parliament this week. Enjoying a lovely morning with the Eggsembly as they squabble over their greens.

It may be the most civil debate I'll see all day.

As a small business owner, this conversation was one that really mattered to me.

I was grateful for the opportunity to sit down with Queensland Small Business Commissioner Nicolle Kelly and share what I'm hearing from business owners across our region.

Running a small business is incredibly rewarding, but it's not easy. As a small business owner for over 20 years, I know the pressures that come with rising costs, navigating red tape, dealing with workforce challenges, and trying to plan for the future when so much feels uncertain.

During our discussion, I raised concerns about the soaring cost of insurance, which is having a significant impact on many local businesses and tourism operators. We also spoke about disaster recovery funding, superannuation arrangements for musicians and performers, reducing unnecessary red tape, and how we can strengthen the voice of small business at a federal level.

Small businesses are the heart of our communities. They create local jobs, support local families, and contribute so much to the character and success of our region.

Thank you to Nicolle for taking the time to listen. I'll continue advocating for practical solutions and making sure the experiences of local business owners are part of the conversation.

I'd love to hear from you. What's the biggest issue affecting your business right now, and what would make the biggest difference?
Did you know it's EmergencyRedi Week? We saw during Cyclone Jasper that Far North Queenslanders are incredibly resilient.

However, preparation remains key. EmergencyRedi Week is a great opportunity to make a plan, understand your risks, and ensure your household is ready for future emergencies.

I encourage everyone to take the time to complete their Emergency RediPlan and help build a safer, more prepared community. Visit redcross.org.au for more information.

ICYMI: Tangalooma Island Resort has officially opened its new Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club on Moreton Island. It was great to join the team to officially open the cabanas as the Assistant Minister for Tourism. Queensland is officially open for business with tourism booming across our great state. And why would you want to holiday (or live) anywhere else? ☀️
