This morning the Crisafulli Government announced nearly $2.2 million in disaster recovery funding to support land restoration efforts across Far North Queensland (FNQ) and South-East Queensland (SEQ). This funding will help communities recover from the devastation caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the severe storms that hit SEQ in late 2023 and early 2024.

Through the 2023-24 Environmental Recovery Package, we are investing in two key programs:

  • $1.5 million for the Local Conservation and Clean-up Program, offering grants of up to $100,000 to assist with debris removal and conservation efforts in cyclone-affected areas.
  • $690,000 for the Private Protected Area Landholder Support Program, with $290,000 allocated for FNQ and $400,000 for SEQ to help landowners improve ecosystem health and strengthen their properties against future disasters.

Queensland is home to the largest private protected area network in Australia, covering 4.9 million hectares, and these grants will be vital in protecting our unique landscapes and supporting biodiversity.

We know the road to recovery is long, but this funding will help build resilience and restore our incredible natural environment. Grant applications open on 13 February 2025 and close on 13 March 2025.
