More Queenslanders are set to take their first step onto the property ladder, thanks to major cost-of-living relief measures delivered in the Crisafulli Government’s first State Budget. The headline initiative? An extension of the boosted $30,000 First Home Owner Grant, now available until 30 June 2026.
In addition to this record-breaking grant, first home buyers purchasing a new build will pay zero stamp duty—a move already saving thousands in upfront costs and easing the path to home ownership.
A Budget Built for First Home Buyers
Previously scheduled to expire at the end of June under the former Labor Government, the Crisafulli Government has acted swiftly to extend the boosted $30,000 grant for another year—a key part of a wider housing strategy aimed at reversing Queensland’s low home ownership rates.
“We are unlocking the door to home ownership for thousands more Queenslanders who have been locked out from their first home for too long,” Premier David Crisafulli said.
“Boosting the First Home Owner Grant and delivering on our promise to abolish stamp duty for first buyers on new homes is also driving more homes to be built across our State. It’s more money back in the pockets of first-time buyers, putting the great Australian dream back within reach.”
Thousands Already Benefiting
Since taking effect, the policy changes have already delivered average savings of $16,996 per first home buyer, significantly reducing the upfront cost of buying or building a home.
In addition, new rules now allow first home buyers to rent out a room, providing extra support in paying off mortgages and making home ownership even more manageable.
The initiative is expected to help around 3,000 Queenslanders each year—a major step toward the Government’s goal of making Queensland the top state for home ownership within the next decade.
Treasurer and Minister for Home Ownership David Janetzki said:
“Supporting first home buyers in Queensland is about creating opportunities, removing financial barriers, and making home ownership a reality for more Queenslanders. Every Queenslander deserves a place to call home.”
Industry Backing and Economic Boost
The policy has received strong support from the property industry. Michael Loney, Joint Managing Director of Ausbuild and President of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (Queensland), highlighted how crucial first home buyers are to a healthy housing market.
“When programs like the Queensland First Home Owner Grant and stamp duty concessions work together, they make the dream of home ownership a real and achievable goal for more Queenslanders,” he said.
