Today is a proud day for our community—because we’ve finally secured the funding to deliver a new Barron River Bridge

I’ve been fighting for this since the moment I put my hand up to represent the people of Barron River. And now, in the Crisafulli Government’s very first Budget, we’re delivering on our commitment. $245 million will be allocated to build a safer, stronger, and more reliable bridge for the Far North.

This investment matches the Australian Government’s commitment announced in April, ensuring full funding is now locked in. After years of delays, excuses, and inaction under the previous Labor Government, we’re finally moving forward with the infrastructure our region has been crying out for.

This isn’t just about replacing an old bridge. This is about:

  • Safe and reliable travel between Cairns and the Tablelands
  • Dedicated pedestrian and cycling paths to better connect our community
  • Improved freight and business transport links to support our regional economy
  • A turnaround facility on the Kennedy Highway to ease congestion and improve traffic flow

The new bridge will be built downstream of the existing one and will support the everyday needs of families, workers, and businesses across Far North Queensland. From tourism and agriculture to health care and education access—this bridge will make a real difference in people’s lives.

When I was elected, I made a promise to be a strong voice for our region—and today, I’m proud to say that promise is being kept.

This is the moment we’ve been waiting for.

As we move into the detailed design and approvals stage, I’ll continue working to make sure the project reflects the needs of our community. We deserve infrastructure that’s not just functional but future-ready—and that’s exactly what this bridge will be.

For too long, the Far North was overlooked. But under the Crisafulli Government, that’s changing. We are investing in our future, listening to our communities, and getting on with the job of delivering.

Thank you to every local who raised their voice, shared their story, etc. Your support helped make this happen.
