She Shed is more than just a creative workshop space. It’s a place designed with heart and purpose — where women of all ages and abilities can come together to share skills, try something new, and most importantly, connect. From the moment I arrived, the warmth, excitement, and community spirit in the room were palpable.
At its core, She Shed is about creating a refuge from the busyness of life — a safe, inclusive space where women can create, learn, collaborate, grow, and shine. Whether it’s sewing, pottery, mosaics, woodworking, journaling, or floristry, there is something here for every woman, no matter her experience or background.
But what stood out to me most is that She Shed isn’t just about creativity — it’s about purpose. Through its workshops and open studio days, women will not only develop new skills but also give back to the community. From making handmade cards for oncology wards to crafting blankets for people experiencing homelessness using recycled coffee sacks, She Shed is already making a tangible impact.
The story behind She Shed is both moving and inspiring. Founded by Jane Mitchell, the idea was born from personal adversity. In 2022, Jane faced a series of life-altering challenges. But out of that hardship grew a powerful vision — to create a space where women could heal, grow, and lift each other up through shared knowledge and creativity. Together with Alanna McKenna, Jane has turned that vision into reality.
Seeing that dream come to life at the grand opening was incredibly uplifting. The energy, joy, and pride shared by everyone in the room was a clear sign that this space is going to mean a great deal to many women across our region.
Congratulations to Jane, Alanna, and the entire She Shed team on this milestone moment. I look forward to watching it grow.
