Port Douglas Carnivale

I was able to attend several of the Port Douglas Carnivale events this year in between Crankworx Cairns and Sitting Week.

A new addition this year, Savannah Sounds was one of the biggest highlights as it captivated audiences over three days at Rex Smeal Park. The festival featured performances by renowned artists including Sheppard, The Wolfe Brothers, The Black Sorrows, and DJ sets from Zoe Badwi and Andy Van, creating an unforgettable musical experience.

The Macrossan Street Parade was another huge success with the iconic street parade lit up the heart of Port Douglas with colorful floats, lively performances, and a community spirit that showcased the town’s unique charm.

Family Beach Day at Four Mile Beach was the setting for a day of family-friendly activities, including beach games, live entertainment, and delicious food stalls, ensuring fun for all ages.

The Maho Magic Bar brought a touch of Tokyo to the tropics with an immersive experience with master illusionists performing up-close magic in a vibrant, neon-lit setting. Very cool to watch!

On the sporting front, there were several runners gearing up for the Douglas Dash and I am tired just thinking about it. Golfers also competed at the Mirage Country Club, enjoying a day of sport amidst the lush tropical landscape.

Another great event on Sunday was the Go Troppo Art Exhibition, showcasing the works of local artists and adding a creative flair to the Carnivale festivities as well as the Makers Tropic Lights – a dazzling projection show illuminated the Sugar Wharf and Macrossan Street, enchanting visitors with a fusion of light and art.

A massive congratulations for everyone involved. This year’s Carnivale was a testament to the town’s vibrant community spirit. It’s anticipated that the economic impact will be on par with, if not exceed, the previous year’s figures. The continued success of Port Douglas Carnivale highlights its importance in promoting tourism and stimulating economic growth in the region.
