Northern Beaches Scout Group

I’m also deeply aware of the extraordinary impact Scouts make every day. The Scouts are one of Australia’s longest-serving organisations, with a proud history dating back to 1908.

Many young people start their Scouting journey as Joeys at just five years old, progressing through Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, and even Rovers. Along the way, they develop teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a sense of responsibility that extends far beyond the Scout hall.

To all the Scouts I met —you are the young leaders of tomorrow. Whether you dream of becoming MPs, CEOs, police officers, astronauts, teachers, or directors, the skills and values you are building through Scouting will guide you to inspire the next generation.

Your commitment is making a tangible, positive difference in Far North Queensland every single day.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing network of volunteers—Group Leaders, Section Leaders, Committee Members, and families—who dedicate their time, knowledge, and energy to mentoring young people. Your support allows Scouts to grow into confident, capable, and compassionate citizens.

Scouts also have a proud history of producing outstanding leaders. Many Australians you may not immediately recognise started as Scouts—like Jason Donovan and Shane Jacobsen. And globally, icons such as David Attenborough, David Beckham, Neil Armstrong, Martha Stewart, Bill Gates… and yes, even Taylor Swift!

Receiving this scarf is an absolute honour, and I will wear it with pride.
