Trinity Beach State School is the largest primary school in North Queensland with one of the worst Outside School Care Facilities.

This petition is for parents, carers, community members, teachers and anyone else who supports Government funding to assist in the new OSHC building.

Key Issues:

  • Trinity Beach State School is the largest state primary school in North Queensland. The OSHC service is currently one of the biggest Before Care Programs in Far North Queensland.
  • Under the current OSHC, 140 students are able to attend but the children are using demountable buildings and other classrooms as the OSHC building cannot accommodate this many children.
  • The OSHC building requires a complete upgrade due to flooding, mould damage and inadequate facilities.
  • Trinity Beach State School has a 40 student wait list.

Funding:

  • Trinity Beach State School P&C have raised $500,000 to contribute to an upgrade of the current OSHC.
  • The school requires a new building alongside the current OSHC which will also need repairs.
  • The project is estimated at $1.7 million.
  • We are requesting $1.3 million for this school to receive the upgrade they have been needing for years now.

Impact to Community:

The upgrade to the OSHC will:

  • Provide stable employment for residents
  • Support workforce development, allowing parents to return to the workforce
  • Ensure the safety and care of more children in the community
  • Act as a community hub with possibilities for local playgrounds, health professional, community meetings, parenting workshops and family events.
