Artistic Director Teho Ropeyarn has shared some exciting highlights from this rich program of artistic and cultural experiences for locals and visitors to Cairns and Queensland’s far north.
CIAF has a proven track record of artistic excellence, championing the diverse work by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who have gained local, national and international acclaim.
By providing a high profile, ethical marketplace, CIAF makes a significant contribution to developing sustainable career pathways and economic opportunities for First Nations visual artists and businesses from across the state.
Established by the Queensland Government through the Backing Indigenous Arts (BIA) initiative, CIAF was created to platform the extraordinary work of Queensland Indigenous artists and to generate and grow new markets for this work. More than 1,500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island artists have exhibited their art works during CIAF over the past 15 years. CIAF has also delivered economic and cultural benefits for Cairns and its surrounding regions with approximately $22 million dollars injected into the Queensland economy since its inception.
CIAF’s exciting 2025 program, featuring 600 visual artists and 150 performers, will strengthen Queensland’s reputation as a cultural destination and grow our creative economy, with visitors drawn to experience unique Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and explore the breathtaking attractions of Queensland’s tropical far north.
Boosting our creative industries – fuelled by the sharing of stories and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples told through art works, fashion and textiles, music and performance – will ensure First Nations artists and communities benefit from the significant
Congratulations to the CIAF team on a captivating program. I look forward to this signature Queensland event in July and encourage locals and visitors alike to engage in the rich cultural experience of CIAF 2025.
