
At Kuranda Neighbourhood Centre I loved speaking and listening to the inspiring stories from the guest speakers – Leah, Sheena and Tina. I had tears in my eyes watching these incredible women take the stage and share their journeys.
I also presented Certificates of Appreciation to Sheena and the Kuranda SES team, Jade Falvo for her efforts during the TC Jasper floods and the team at Ngoonbi Community Services.
On Saturday it was wonderful to be at the Cairns Regional Council International Women’s Day awards today. Huge congratulations to all of the nominees, especially Eden Santos from my office, and Kyra Hourigan who does work experience in my office too! Two incredible women in my world.
Young Woman Of The Year Claudia Kurowski, what an inspiring young woman. I’m sad I didn’t get to catch up with you today to congratulate you in person. You are a young woman to watch thats for sure. Well done to Kyra who won highly commended in this category. Two very inspiring young women.

The 2025 Women’s Recognition award went to Michelle Langford who does incredible work in our community with women and birthing.
It was also wonderful to see Sally Mlikota acknowledged for her dedication to Women’s employment and economic security.
Huge congratulations to the 2025 Woman of the year Courtney Hansen! What you are achieving in the Marine sector is truly inspiring.
On Sunday it was off to International Women’s Day event today, celebrating women in service, hosted by the RSL Cairns Branch.

Listening to Commander Fiona Southwood’s journey in the Australian Royal Navy was very inspiring. The panel of local women sharing their stories was also heart-warming.
