Far North Queensland communities will be better prepared for cyclones, floods and severe weather events thanks to the delivery of three additional satellite-powered Airbridge Resilient Network Infrastructure (ARNI) communication trailers and a new heavy-lift disaster response drone.
The new equipment forms part of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to strengthen disaster resilience across the region and ensure emergency services have the tools they need to support communities when disaster strikes.
The additional ARNI trailers bring the total number deployed across Far North Queensland to five. Powered by high-capacity batteries and Starlink satellite technology, the trailers can restore communications and internet connectivity within minutes of arriving in disaster-affected areas.
These trailers provide emergency personnel with mobile operational bases, allowing responders to coordinate critical disaster operations even when local power and telecommunications infrastructure has been damaged or disabled.
The region’s disaster response capability has also been boosted with the addition of a DJI FlyCart 100 heavy-lift drone. Capable of carrying payloads of up to 80 kilograms, the drone can transport food, water, medical supplies and emergency equipment directly into isolated communities when roads are impassable.
I am particularly proud that the ARNI trailers have been designed and built right here in Far North Queensland by local company Airbridge Networks. Under the guidance of Doug Stephans, this equipment will be rolled out across the region ensuring we are better prepared for disasters.
Far North Queenslanders understand better than most the challenges that come with severe weather. Reliable communications and rapid access to critical supplies can make a significant difference during an emergency.
These latest investments build on previous ARNI trailer deployments and ensure our emergency services are better equipped than ever to support communities across the Far North.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen disaster preparedness, improve resilience and make Queensland safer for everyone.
I want to thank Police Minister Dan Purdie MP as well as the QPS and SES for all the hard work they do in our region.
