Since being elected as your local representative, one of my top priorities has been ensuring that every member of our community—especially those who have served our country—gets the support they need and deserve.

Right now, I’m leading the fight for a project that I believe will change lives in Far North Queensland: FNQ Legacy House.

We are home to one of the largest veteran populations in the country, with more than 11,000 veterans living in the Leichhardt and Kennedy regions. Yet we still lack a dedicated, purpose-built facility to support these veterans and their families—particularly those dealing with grief, trauma, housing instability, or health challenges.

That’s why I’ve launched a petition calling for $5.7 million in State and Federal funding to make FNQ Legacy House a reality.

This proposed facility—led by the passionate team at Far North Queensland Legacy—would be a safe haven and support hub for over 300 local beneficiaries. It’s not just bricks and mortar. It’s a lifeline.

Here’s what FNQ Legacy House would deliver:

  • Crisis accommodation units for families who are escaping domestic violence or seeking urgent medical treatment

  • Therapy and wellness spaces to support mental health and healing

  • A base for Legacy’s vital programs and services, including the expansion of Legacy Links, which helps veterans transition into civilian life

  • A dedicated space that brings connection, dignity, and hope to families navigating the most difficult chapters of their lives

As the Member for Barron River, I see firsthand the incredible resilience of our veteran community—and I also see the gaps in support that must be filled. FNQ Legacy House would be the first of its kind outside Brisbane, and it’s time our region gets the equity and recognition it deserves.

This is about more than a building. It’s about showing our veterans and their families that we haven’t forgotten their sacrifice—and that we’re prepared to back that sentiment with real, tangible support.

I’ve spoken with so many families in our region who would benefit directly from this centre. They don’t need more promises. They need action. And that’s what I’m here to deliver.

But I can’t do it alone. I’m calling on our State and Federal Governments to join me in this funding partnership—and I’m asking you, our community, to stand with us by signing the petition and spreading the word.

Together, we can build FNQ Legacy House.
Together, we can leave a legacy that truly honours those who have given so much.
