Community sport is the heart of so many Far North Queensland communities. It brings people together, keeps us active, develops future talent and creates opportunities for athletes of all ages to thrive.

That’s why it’s fantastic to see the transformation of Stan Williams Park now complete, thanks to a $6 million investment from the Crisafulli Government’s Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure program. It was wonderful to welcome the Sports Minister to Cairns to take a look at the new facilities.

The funding has delivered Stage 2 of the Manunda Sports Precinct redevelopment, including new changerooms, a grandstand and upgraded field lighting, helping create a modern sporting facility that local clubs, players and families can be proud of.

This investment builds on Brothers Leagues Club Cairns’ $12 million contribution through Stage 1 of the redevelopment and represents a major win for community sport in Cairns.

The upgraded precinct supports 17 sporting organisations and is used by thousands of locals every week. From junior sport and grassroots competitions to regional championships and major events, Stan Williams Park is now better equipped than ever to serve our growing community.

The improvements are already attracting significant events to our region, including Football Queensland Far North and Gulf Grand Final Days, while the precinct is also set to host the Cairns 7s Rugby Tournament. It will also become the temporary home of the Northern Pride during the redevelopment of Barlow Park.

As we look ahead to Brisbane 2032, the Crisafulli Government is committed to ensuring Queensland’s Olympic and Paralympic legacy reaches every corner of the state. Investments like this mean local clubs and communities can benefit from world-class facilities long before the Games arrive.

I was proud to support this project and even prouder to see it delivered.

These upgrades will encourage more people to get involved in sport, help attract major events to Cairns and further strengthen our reputation as one of Australia’s premier sporting destinations.

As Brothers Leagues Club celebrates its centenary year, the completion of this redevelopment ensures Stan Williams Park will continue to be a thriving hub for sport, recreation and community connection for generations to come.

Games on, Cairns!
