The location for Freshwater State School’s new multi-purpose hall has been confirmed following extensive community consultation. This is an important step forward for the school and a proud moment for the local community.

The Crisafulli Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deliver a new multi-purpose hall for Freshwater State School, working closely with families, staff and community representatives to ensure the project meets local needs.

A dedicated internal consultative group was established to involve volunteer parents and carers, Parents and Citizens Association members and school staff in the planning process. Over several meetings, the group reviewed a range of site and design options presented by the project architect.

After careful consideration, the group endorsed the Corkill Street boundary as the preferred location. This option preserves valuable green space and mature trees, utilises the lower end of the site for natural drainage, allows solar panels to be installed with optimal roof orientation, creates undercover play space for wet weather use and maintains oval access while supporting future car parking improvements.

The Department of Education’s Service Planning and Development Board has endorsed the community’s recommendation, which will now guide the final design. The redesigned plan will include solar panels, a multi-purpose court, performance stage and storage facilities, along with weatherproof play spaces, preserved trees and improved parking.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-2026, with the hall opening planned for mid-2027.

This milestone reflects the strength of community involvement and collaboration that has guided every step of the process. Member for Barron River Bree James worked closely with parents, residents and school representatives to ensure their voices were heard and their priorities respected.

The Freshwater community can be proud of the outcome achieved together. The new hall will deliver a modern, functional and sustainable facility that supports learning, creativity and connection for generations to come.
