Far North Queensland has gained another boost with the opening of the upgraded Jindalba Boardwalk in the Daintree National Park. This multi million dollar project is part of the Crisafulli Government’s ongoing work to deliver meaningful ecotourism infrastructure across the state and to support long term growth in the north.
The Jindalba Boardwalk upgrade delivers a more accessible and immersive rainforest experience for both locals and visitors. Spanning around 650 metres and crossing three serene watercourses, the boardwalk now offers a smoother, more inclusive journey through one of the most remarkable ecosystems on Earth. People of all abilities can explore ancient trees, vibrant birdlife and, if they are lucky, glimpse a tree kangaroo.
The project supports Destination 2045, a long term tourism plan designed to create a stronger and more sustainable visitor economy. After years of limited ecotourism progress, FNQ is once again seeing investment that matches the region’s extraordinary natural value.

The elevated boardwalk has been rebuilt with durable Fibreglass Reinforced Polymer, reducing maintenance and ensuring the structure can withstand the harsh tropical climate for decades. -

The track largely follows its original alignment, with revegetation in areas where realignment was necessary. -
Improved accessibility
Upgraded sections provide safer, easier access for people of all abilities, supported by a designated parking space and an improved entry point. -

New interpretive signage helps visitors connect with the natural and cultural significance of the area, while new viewing points offer opportunities to stop and take in the beauty of the rainforest.
Local leaders and tourism operators have welcomed the completion of the project, recognising the importance of maintaining world class experiences in a region that relies so heavily on nature based tourism. Strengthening ecotourism in the Daintree not only enhances the visitor experience but also supports local jobs, protects the environment and keeps FNQ at the forefront of sustainable tourism.
