In Far North Queensland, the Crisafulli Government is taking strong action to restore safety in our communities with a new intensive early intervention program for at-risk youth. Delivered by The MaraWay, the Regional Reset program is designed to intervene early, address the root causes of disengagement, and support young people aged 8–17 before they fall deeper into antisocial or criminal behaviour.

Participants will take part in a one- to three-week short-stay “reset” at a 38-hectare property in the Tablelands. Here, they will contribute to the daily running of the farm and receive 24/7 support and supervision. During this intensive phase, young people will build emotional, social, and physical wellbeing through cultural mentoring, agricultural and animal care lessons, education sessions, life and employment skills workshops, and personal development challenges.

The Regional Reset program doesn’t stop when the reset is over. Participants will receive up to 12 months of wraparound support including counselling, mentorship, family therapy, and at-home assistance. This long-term engagement is designed to re-connect young people with their families, schools, and wider community, diverting them away from crime and giving them the tools to succeed.

The $50 million Regional Reset program is being delivered across nine locations throughout Queensland, forming part of a broader strategy to reduce youth crime by pairing stronger laws and tougher policing with meaningful early intervention and rehabilitation. The Crisafulli Government understands that communities cannot simply arrest their way out of a youth crime crisis. Young people must be given opportunities to change their trajectory long before they become entrenched repeat offenders.

This program is a long-term commitment to restoring safety, providing hope, and ensuring Far North Queensland communities have the support they deserve.
