EXCITING NEWS! The Crisafulli Government has secured a major new international sporting event for Far North Queensland, with the inaugural 2026 Oceania Continental Series Finale set to take place at Smithfield Mountain Bike Park from 16 to 19 April 2026.
The four-day competition-led festival will bring together around 650 elite riders from Australia, Oceania and Asia, competing across downhill, cross-country and short-course events. The festival is expected to attract more than 1,200 visitors, deliver nearly 10,000 visitor nights, and inject an estimated $2.4 million into the local economy.
This exciting new event reinforces Cairns’ reputation as a world-class mountain biking destination while delivering real economic benefits for local businesses, accommodation providers and tourism operators across the region.
The event was secured as part of the Crisafulli Government’s Destination 2045 tourism strategy — a long-term blueprint designed to elevate Queensland through world-class outdoor and nature-based visitor experiences. The 2026 Finale will replace Crankworx and marks a new chapter for major mountain biking events in Far North Queensland.
Supported by the Crisafulli Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, alongside Cairns Regional Council and Tourism Tropical North Queensland, the festival highlights the Government’s commitment to regional growth and tourism recovery.
Cairns has built a reputation for world-class mountain biking, and this event will showcase the region’s incredible trails while putting more heads in beds and money in the tills of local businesses.
By supporting events like this, we’re strengthening regional economies, creating jobs and ensuring Cairns continues to grow as a must-visit destination for both domestic and international visitors.
Securing the 2026 Oceania Continental Series Finale is another example of the Crisafulli Government delivering a clear plan for Queensland’s future, supporting regional tourism, creating jobs, and ensuring Far North Queensland continues to thrive. I don’t know about you but I cannot wait! I hope to see you there.
