The bus is coming and I couldn’t be more excited. After months of campaigning, I am so proud to share that we will have a direct link from the Cairns CBD to Cairns Airport by the end of this year.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering improved transport connections for Far North Queensland, with a new bus route linking Cairns Airport and the heart of the CBD officially confirmed following community consultation.
The new Route 100 service will provide the first direct public transport connection between Cairns Airport and central Cairns, making travel easier, more affordable and more accessible for residents, visitors and airport workers alike.
Operating seven days a week from 4am to 10:30pm (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day), the service will run every 30 minutes throughout the day. The route will travel along Lake Street and connect a range of key destinations, including Cairns Airport, Cairns Hospital, Cairns Private Hospital, Cairns City Bus Station and Cairns Lagoon.
Thanks to the Crisafulli Government’s Permanent 50 Cent Fares initiative, passengers will be able to travel between the airport and the CBD for just 50 cents.
Cairns is one of Australia’s premier tourism destinations and a vital gateway to Tropical North Queensland. Despite welcoming millions of visitors each year and supporting a growing local population, the city has never had a dedicated public transport link between the airport and the CBD.
The new service addresses longstanding calls from the community, tourism operators and local businesses for a reliable and affordable transport connection. I want to thank everyone who signed the petition to get this bus up and running.
