The Crisafulli Government’s Play On! Sports Vouchers program is delivering real cost-of-living relief for families across Barron River, helping thousands of local children participate in sport and recreation.
In the program’s first year, 2,125 vouchers have been redeemed across Barron River, with 37 local activity providers participating in the initiative.
These figures mean that 2,125 local children have had the opportunity to get involved in sport, stay active, build friendships and develop healthy habits through community-based activities.
The success of the program forms part of a broader achievement across Far North Queensland, where almost 14,000 children have benefited from Play On! Sports Vouchers.
The vouchers, worth up to $200, help families with the cost of participation, including registration fees, memberships and other sporting expenses. At a time when many households are managing increased cost-of-living pressures, the program is making a real difference to family budgets.
Importantly, the Crisafulli Government has secured ongoing funding for the program in the State Budget, giving families and sporting clubs certainty that Play On! Sports Vouchers will continue into the future.
The Government has also ensured the program remains fair and accessible for all Queensland families. Dedicated regional allocations help ensure children living outside South East Queensland are not disadvantaged, while every child with a disability who applies for a Play On! Sports Voucher is guaranteed to receive one.
Beyond helping families, the program is strengthening local sporting clubs by encouraging participation and supporting community organisations that play a vital role in keeping young people active and connected.
With applications for the next round opening on 27 July, local families are encouraged to mark the date in their calendars and take advantage of this valuable support.
