The countdown to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games has taken another exciting step forward, with Cairns officially unveiling the first piece of the six-piece emblem puzzle that will come together to reveal the Games emblem.

It was fantastic to join Olympic legend Ian Thorpe, Paralympian Scooter Patterson, the Sports Minister and many other special guests as we celebrated this important milestone right here in Far North Queensland.

While the Games may be branded Brisbane 2032, they belong to all of Queensland, and today’s event was a powerful reminder of that. Communities right across our state will play a role in delivering what will be the biggest sporting event in Queensland’s history, and Cairns is ready to be part of the journey.

As someone who has consistently advocated for our region to have a seat at the table, I am incredibly proud to see Cairns receive its own piece of the Olympic puzzle. And we’re not just part of the story figuratively. With football (soccer) expected to be confirmed and more sporting announcements still to come, our region is well positioned to play a meaningful role in the lead-up to and delivery of the Games.

The opportunities for Far North Queensland extend far beyond sport. The road to 2032 is about inspiring the next generation, showcasing our region to the world, attracting investment and strengthening the infrastructure and facilities that will benefit our communities for decades to come.

Today’s unveiling was about more than revealing a puzzle piece. It was about building excitement, bringing Queenslanders together and starting the countdown in true Far North Queensland style.

Of course, one question remains.

What will the emblem be?

A flower? A crocodile? A surfboard? Something entirely unexpected?

The first piece has been revealed, but the mystery continues. We’ll all have to wait until next week to discover what the complete picture looks like.

One thing is certain: the road to 2032 has begun, and Cairns is proudly part of the journey.
