Community groups across Queensland are celebrating a significant funding boost, with nearly 600 not-for-profit organisations sharing in $14 million from the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

Round 123 of the program has awarded grants of up to $35,000 to support a wide range of community initiatives — from grassroots sports and facility upgrades to equipment purchases and wellbeing projects. Since its inception over 30 years ago, the GCBF has distributed more than $1.25 billion into the hands of local organisations, empowering communities to grow, connect, and thrive.

In the Barron River electorate, several outstanding organisations were successful in securing funding in this round:

  • Cairns & District Pickleball Club Inc.$7,314.80 to purchase essential equipment
  • Cairns Pirates Touch Football Association Inc.$20,000 to upgrade their facility
  • Cairns Baseball League Inc.$35,000 to carry out vital fencing repairs
  • Cairns Hindu Samaj Inc.$6,467.40 to purchase event equipment
  • Cairns Water Sports Incorporated$25,000 to upgrade their facility
  • FNQ Health & Endurance Sports Inc.$10,544.60 to produce a video and purchase equipment

These investments reflect the hard work and dedication of local volunteers and organisations that continue to strengthen the social fabric of our communities.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Deb Frecklington welcomed the announcement and reinforced the importance of programs like the GCBF in supporting regional and local development.

“Every dollar invested through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund goes directly to communities,” Minister Frecklington said.
“It’s fantastic to see $14 million flowing into projects that make a real difference — from equipment upgrades to facility improvements. This is about backing the groups and volunteers who give so much to their communities.”

With more than 1,100 applications received for this round, competition was strong. The Minister encouraged all eligible not-for-profits to apply for future rounds.

“This Government is committed to identifying and delivering practical support to local clubs and community organisations,” she said.
“Their work is the backbone of Queensland, and we’ll continue to support it.”
