I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people across Far North Queensland — selfless, hardworking locals who give their time, heart, and energy to make our communities stronger. From volunteers and carers to advocates, innovators, and educators, FNQ is full of people who inspire others every single day.
Now, we have a chance to put their names forward and have their efforts recognised on the national stage.
Nominations are open for the 2026 Australian of the Year Awards, and I’d love to see as many nominations from FNQ as possible. This is our opportunity to shine a spotlight on the everyday heroes who shape the heart and soul of our region.
Who Can You Nominate?
There are four award categories, each recognising different forms of leadership, service, and community impact:
- Australian of the Year
- Senior Australian of the Year (65 years and over)
- Young Australian of the Year (16 to 30 years)
- Australia’s Local Hero
It could be the nurse in your town who always goes the extra mile. The young changemaker raising awareness on mental health. The Elder preserving culture and language. The local legend who’s been volunteering for decades.
Please, take a moment to think about someone in our community who deserves recognition. It only takes a few minutes to submit a nomination, but the impact could be life-changing — for them and for those they inspire.
🕛 Nominations close 11.59pm, Thursday 31 July 2025
