It seems like yesterday I stood with the Minister for Education at the Cairns State Special School announcing major upgrades to this important education facility. And now construction is officially complete!.
The project is part of the Queensland Government’s record investment in special education infrastructure, ensuring students with disability have access to modern, inclusive learning environments that support their individual needs and help them thrive.
The completed expansion includes two new buildings, additional outdoor learning areas and a range of specialist facilities designed to support student learning, development and wellbeing.
In total, the project delivers eight new learning spaces, alongside therapy and sensory rooms, specialist equipment, musical instruments, a new playground and additional car parking.
As Far North Queensland continues to grow, investment in education infrastructure is critical. Every child deserves access to facilities that allow them to learn, develop confidence and reach their full potential, regardless of their individual circumstances or support needs.
The expansion of Cairns State Special School forms part of the largest investment in special schools in Queensland’s history, with new special schools and upgrades being delivered across the state. The investment recognises the increasing demand for specialist education services and ensures families have access to the support and learning environments their children need.
The new facilities will create opportunities for students to learn in environments specifically designed around their needs, while supporting teachers and staff in delivering high-quality education programs.
The completion of this project is another example of the investment being made in Queensland’s future through improved education infrastructure, ensuring students have the resources, facilities and support they need to achieve their best outcomes.
It provides more opportunities for local students to catch up, keep up and stay engaged in their education, while giving parents confidence that their children can access world-class facilities close to home.
