I’m proud to share that the Crisafulli Government is delivering $2 million in upgrades to halls across Far North Queensland, including Kuranda, Koah, Stratford, Yorkeys Knob, Machan’s Beach and Holloway’s Beach.
During the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the North Queensland floods, these halls became safe spaces for our most vulnerable. They opened their doors to residents who lost homes, became centres for food distribution, support, connection and recovery, and stood as pillars of strength when our communities needed them the most.
That’s why I’m so proud to see the Crisafulli Government deliver vital upgrades to six community halls across the region, infrastructure that will not just support disaster recovery, but enhance every aspect of community life.
The $2 million in improvements will deliver better facilities, greater accessibility, and reliable emergency capability. They include:

$352,000 for the Kuranda Hall (Queensland Country Women’s Association)

$350,000 for the Stratford Bowls Club

$321,000 for Koah Hall (Mareeba Shire Council)

$150,000 for Yorkeys Knob Community Hall (Cairns Regional Council)

$562,240 for Machan’s Beach Hall (Machan’s Beach Community Association)

$250,000 for Holloway’s Beach Community Hall (Cairns Regional Council)
These halls are a part of our community not just during Cyclone Jasper but for events, activities and as a safe space for our residents.
I am so excited to see these upgrades take shape and even more thrilled to celebrate their reopenings in 2026. These halls are about honouring what makes Far North Queensland special: our people, our connection, and our ability to stand together in the hardest of times.
