From 1 July 2026, households and small businesses across regional Queensland are benefiting from lower electricity prices under the Crisafulli Government’s Energy Roadmap Price Drop, delivering welcome cost-of-living relief for Far North Queensland communities.

For families already balancing household budgets and local businesses, such as Preston Seafood and Retail (pictured above), managing rising operating costs, lower power bills will make a real difference.

Under the new pricing changes, Ergon customers across regional Queensland will receive the full benefit of reduced wholesale electricity costs, with average savings of:

  • Around 7 per cent for households
  • Around 8 per cent for small businesses

These reductions represent meaningful savings for families and business owners at a time when many have been facing ongoing cost pressures.

Importantly, the Government has ensured these savings are being passed on in full to Ergon customers, helping to put more money back into the pockets of regional Queenslanders.

Electricity is a significant expense for many Far North Queensland households and businesses.

Whether it’s families running air conditioning through the warmer months, cafés serving customers, tourism operators hosting visitors, or small businesses keeping their doors open, power costs have a direct impact on household budgets and business viability.

Lower electricity prices will help reduce some of that pressure while supporting local economic activity across our region.

For many businesses, lower operating costs create opportunities to invest, employ staff and continue growing. For families, every dollar saved on essential bills helps ease pressure on household finances.

The Government has also called on electricity retailers across South East Queensland to pass on falling power costs to customers and has tasked the Queensland Competition Authority with monitoring pricing, fees and retail behaviour.

This oversight is designed to ensure lower wholesale prices are reflected in consumer bills and that Queenslanders receive a fair deal.

The Queensland Competition Authority will provide an independent assessment of market outcomes later this year, helping to improve transparency and accountability across the energy market.

Reliable and affordable energy remains one of the key issues raised by local residents and businesses across Far North Queensland.

These price reductions are an encouraging step towards easing cost-of-living pressures while supporting economic growth throughout regional communities.

For many local families, lower power bills mean more money available for everyday essentials. For businesses, it helps improve confidence and supports continued investment in our regional economy.

Far North Queensland communities deserve affordable, reliable energy, and today’s price reductions are a welcome outcome for households and businesses right across our region.

At a time when every dollar counts, seeing electricity prices move in the right direction is good news for local families, local businesses and our broader economy.

The Energy Roadmap Price Drop represents a practical measure that delivers real savings where they matter most—helping Queenslanders keep more of their hard-earned money while strengthening confidence in the future of our regional communities.
