Far North Queensland is sitting on a golden opportunity ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and I want to see our sporting community make the most of it.

That’s why I brought together more than 30 sporting clubs and organisations in the Barron River electorate, alongside Sports Minister Tim Mander, Deputy Mayor Brett Olds, and representatives from the Department of Sport and Recreation, for a conversation about what the road to 2032 could mean for Cairns and the Far North.

From soccer and surf lifesaving to gymnastics and everything in between, it was great to have so many passionate local sporting leaders in the room to hear from Minister Mander.

Cairns is incredibly well positioned to become a destination of choice for teams looking to train and prepare ahead of the Games. Our tropical climate and humidity provide conditions that athletes actively seek out when preparing for elite competition.

Now is the time to start thinking about how we can leverage that advantage.

The Games are coming to Queensland, but the benefits shouldn’t stop in Brisbane.

I want to see Far North Queensland’s sporting community front and centre, taking advantage of every opportunity that comes our way.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to come down and be part of the conversation and to Stratford Bowls Club for hosting us.
