As a small business owner myself, I understand the challenges that come with running a business. From rising costs and workforce pressures to keeping up with changing technology, small business owners wear many hats and often have little time to spare.

That’s why I will always back small business.

While small business owners continue to face increasing pressures, I am pleased to see the Crisafulli Government delivering practical support through a new free micro-credentials program designed specifically for small and family businesses.

I recently joined Small and Family Business Minister Steve Minnikin at James Cook University to announce the rollout of the program, with Far North Queensland leading the way.

Almost 80 local business owners have already signed up to participate in free training designed to help businesses build skills, improve resilience and unlock new opportunities for growth. The courses cover key areas including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Business Planning, Continuity and Resilience, and Workforce Development.

I’m particularly excited to see the AI course being delivered in Cairns. Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way businesses operate, and understanding how to use these tools can help small businesses save time, improve customer service, boost productivity and remain competitive.

Importantly, these courses have been designed with small business owners in mind. Flexible online and face-to-face learning options allow participants to gain practical skills without stepping away from the day-to-day demands of running their business.

Small and family businesses are the backbone of our local economy. They create jobs, support local families, sponsor community groups and help make Far North Queensland the vibrant region we all know and love.

Investing in the skills and capability of local business owners is an investment in the future of our region. I look forward to seeing more local businesses take advantage of these opportunities and continue to grow, innovate and succeed.
