Queensland Day: Far North and proud!

From reef to range, from creek to cane,
We wear the sun, we dance in rain.
Where Daintree whispers and waterfalls roar,
And the Coral Sea rolls to our tropical shore.

It’s barra on lines and mangoes in hand,
It’s red dirt roads and palm-fringed sand.
From cyclone season to festival nights,
We stand together through highs and frights.

We smile at strangers, lend a hand fast,
Our FNQ spirit’s built to last.
So here’s to the North, to Cairns and the crew —
Queensland, we’re proud to be part of you!

On my way to Townsville via Airlie on the Bruce Hwy goat track to be upgraded by the LNP. Had to make a pit stop at the Big Mango which recently won the Best Big Thing for Queensland Day.

I think Cairns needs a new statement icon.

What do you think it should be?
HAPPY QUEENSLAND DAY AND HAPPY TROPICAL SHIRT FRIDAY!

Show us your tropical vibes. Stay tuned for our announcement of which events, landmarks and businesses won the 'All the Best' Queensland Competition.

Love my new shirt from @birdiekingsandqueens

Did you know?

It's National Donut Day today...

And now I'm hungry. Where's the best place to get a donut in FNQ?

What a meaningful way to conclude #WorldEnvironmentDay - joining industry leaders at the QTIC World Environment Day event at Shute Harbour Marine Terminal in the heart of the beautiful Whitsundays!

Speaking on behalf of Minister Amanda Camm and Minister Andrew Powell, I was honoured to address this important gathering about the critical intersection between tourism and environmental stewardship. From this stunning location overlooking our pristine waters, the message was clear: we finally have a government that will fight for and back our tourism industry.

When I think about the crossover between Queensland's environment and tourism, I think of the people - the Great Barrier Reef operators showing overseas tourists our incredible ecosystem, the Cairns cafe owners welcoming new visitors conquering the Wangetti Trail. Tourism supports 1 in 6 jobs in Tropical North Queensland - it truly is the backbone of our economy.

This week's launch of Destination 2045 puts ecotourism at the heart of Queensland's tourism future. Our aspiration? To become the world's leading ecotourism destination with 45 new ecotourism projects by 2045! We're not just creating new attractions - we're building on our world-famous icons so visitors stay longer and travel to more places.

Today's panel featuring Stewart Moore (EarthCheck), Andrew Picone (Pew Charitable Trusts), Christian Bennett (Virgin Australia), Johnny Gaskell (Great Barrier Reef Foundation), and Robbie Congoo (Yooribaya Cultural Experiences) showcased how industry leadership drives real environmental action.

Together with Opposition Leader Steven Miles, Mayor Ry Collins, and QTIC CEO Tash Wheeler, we're proving that environmental protection transcends politics. The global #BeatPlasticPollution campaign starts with local action, and Queensland's tourism industry isn't just showcasing our natural wonders - we're actively protecting them for generations to come.

Great conversations over lunch at La Tabella in Airlie Beach with Tom Young from K&L Gates, QTIC Chair Elsa D'Alessio, and Mayor Ry Collins!

The QTIC ESG Industry Lunch brought together key stakeholders to discuss how Environmental, Social and Governance principles are shaping Queensland's tourism future. From sustainable business practices to community impact, it's exciting to see industry leaders prioritising responsible tourism that benefits both our economy and our environment.

These are the partnerships that make a real difference - combining legal expertise, industry leadership, and local government knowledge to drive positive change in our tourism sector.
